It’s Wednesday in Australia,

and my day to post over at Simple, Green, Frugal Co-op. Just a little chick update over there and hopefully here soon a garden update.
The soil finally dried enough to work, after our last rainy session. But, never to be in too much of a hurry in the garden anyway, I’m still planting cool weather crops. No point in wasting my seeds or my transplants. Potatoes, more onions and the second round of carrots are in, but it is still too cool for warm weather lovers like the three sisters group, and hot weather aficionados like peppers and tomatoes.
I can’t wait!

I can’t wait either! We had frost last night. Everyone else planted their gardens but I waited. Hopefully by this weekend it should be safe enough.
Can’t wait to see your garden pics.
We escaped frost this week, but our weather forecast comes from Portland, and they were predicting a 1/4″ of rain and we received an 1″. Hard on the garden, great for the pasture!
I am sending you wishes of warmer weather and the ability to get into the garden and work!
You chicks are really growing and getting big. I love chickens, the grandkids tell me I must have been a chicken in my other life. Ha

Thanks Linda, it’s supposed to dry out again by the weekend. I don’t have too much more to plant immediately, but I do need to get some more weeding done!
I think I was a cow in my former life
I hope to get my garden in this weekend, will have a much bigger one this year. I loved your rhubarb recipes, and you can bet I wrote them down. Thank you for them.
Me too! The rain is still coming down, but it is supposed to be dry this weekend. Fingers crossed!
Your garden plot looks terrific! Does that row of trees protect it from the hot afternoon summer sun? (I can’t tell which direction they are facing.)
I was all set to plant my garden this weekend when hubbyman announced that he wants to “relocate” my garden beds. Words were exchanged. He’s got one more week and then I’m planting. Stubborn man.
I sounds all rough and tough in print, don’t I.
One more thing … in all the excitement of watching your little chicks, I’ve been meaning to ask how Lana and Lula are doing back in the herd. I bet the calf has really grown by now!
That is actually the hedge that protects us from the road! I wish it was a little shorter AND didn’t block the evening sun, but I like the privacy, and hedgerows actually intrigue me with their edge effects.
As for Lana, I’m dead to her! She has to keep up appearances with the other calves. I might tell her mean ol’ Paula will come and give her a talking to if she doesn’t straighten up. Poor hubbyman, relocate at this late date? What’s he thinking!
I am itching for the warm weather and being able to transplant out. Looking at the calendar, it seems *wrong* to be so cold, but I guess nature has its own calendar each year. We are out of the cold snap from yesterday and supposed to warm up even more for the weekend, so I hope you also get warmer weather.
Ooooh, what a lovely spot waiting to be planted! How do you guys prepare your ground beforehand? That’s what I hope our garden plot looks like someday!
