Sunday Stills

June 21, 2009

This week the challenge is tri-color, and even though I have a tri-colored Aussie, he gets enough face time here.

100_8043The inspiration for my next quilt… .

I demanded Ruthless take this picture, therefore I am stealing it and posting it. :)   Couldn’t resist, the flower with the dew was just too pretty.

Both are lovely….could you tell us what they are? I have never seen anything like them.

The top one is Indian Plum or Oemleria cerasiformis a wild shrub very common here. Pretty much inconspicuous until the week these little babies start to change color! But as soon as that happens the cedar waxwings are there to partake.

The second one is Kiwi Blue Cerinthe, a very easy annual to grow and it will self-seed pretty well, at least here in our zone. But, definitely worth growing in the border.

I like! Especially the first one with the “warm” and “cool” in contrast.

I just bought some Cerinthe seeds, so I was tickled to see that one. Very nice.

gorgeous…. and a draw for cedar waxwings… what could be better?

we had a mulberry that drew them occasionally when I was a kid. They didn’t much appreciate the city center location, and mom didn’t much appreciate their mulberry-purple bird-poo on her laundry, but she was as eager as we kids were to see them.

I remember their soft colors clearly – but haven’t seen them since.

Ah, thanks! I have the Indian Plum trees in my backyard in abundance, but I did not know what they are– good to know the berries are not harmful. My boy was asking about them last week. :)

Indian Plum isn’t poisonous, but they are so small and bitter, I think one bite would turn anyone off!
