A short reprieve and then back to work
2009 July 7
All work and no play makes Throwback’s hubby crabby
So on his holiday from work on the 4th of July, Hangdog worked on the roof. Hay and roof need to get done at the same time this year.
While he was on the roof, I baked these rolls for the potluck we were invited to.
And we loaded up the noise maker… .
Enjoyed the view of the view up river.
Ate lots of good food, and stood around a fire even though it was 95°.
Watched the sunset over the Columbia River.
And watched the moon rise.
We had a great 4th of July!!

Sounds like a beautiful day!
Sarah, it was, we had a good view of fireworks in Washington and made a little noise ourselves!
I’m so glad you all had a little time off!! I’m sure it went by quickly – always so much to be done.
Your pictures are fantastic. You live in a beautiful part of our country. That moon shot is just awesome
Hope your hay making is going well and that the roof repair job goes smoothly as well.
Debi, it was too short, luckily just a few miles away though so we could stay late and get caught up with our visiting.
The moon rise was actually more spectacular than any of the fireworks we saw!
We haven’t started hay yet, still waiting for a dry stretch and because we graze the hayfields at least twice in the spring, they are still growing. But soon… sigh.
A cannon? You have your OWN cannon? I am SO jealous!
Pamela, my hubby would love you – I did not want him to buy it at all! But now that he has it finished, it is growing on me. I love the wheels. He thought by now he would have to reset the tires but they are nice and tight!
My husband would be so jealous if he knew you had a cannon! He loves to shoot things and blow up things and make big noises lol.
Lisa, the men were attracted to all the black powder and the women grouped up and talked about plant medicine, food and healing gemstones. Pretty funny to watch!
WOW! a CANNON!!! Your very OWN CANNON! Where and how did you come by such a thing? What about the balls, do you use real balls? Oh, please do a post about the cannon! PLEASE!?!?!?

Linda, I can’t take any credit for the cannon since I fought the project tooth and nail! But he bought the barrel and hardware. Then he made the wheels and carriage for it himself.
He has been making plaster balls for shooting here, but usually he just tamps in sawdust so there are no projectiles. Just noisy!!
I posted more info last July here is the link:

Glad to hear you had a good time. I think most men like to blow things up from time to time
It was fun, good food, warm night, good company. My only complaint was too many mosquitoes that close to the river. We hardly have any here – but geez they were like hummingbirds down there.
Lovely photos… I enjoyed the earlier posts very much too – thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Glad you had a wonderful time! Great photos!
The moon raising was fabulous!! All the pictures were good.
It’s the CANNON.
I’m not sure whether or not you’ve heard yet, Miss Nita, but… I am a huge fan of the cannon. Dear Lord, it makes my heart beat faster. And I’m not even male.
That’ll be about it, I guess.
Love that cannon.
PS. I want one for my birthday.
I agree the cannon is way too cool! We have to go to Fort Knox to see one of those.
i do love that gorge.
wonderful pics…. looks like a great day. Except for the being up working on the roof part. That doesn’t look like any fun at all, especially when it’s hot!
What a wonderful fourth of July you had with your very own cannon! Nita, your photos are amazing.
I hope the roof is finished and that you bale your hay before any rain.
some wonderful photos there.
I drove “up” the river yesterday… with three granddaughters in tow —
The 7 year old said she wanted the rasberries from the other post
