Blue Moon Mel turns 10
*WARNING* all photos after the first one are boring – signed The Cats.
The self appointed farm warden loyal companion (well, one of them) is 10 today. Almost always by my side, he is a great dog, if you don’t count all his little idiosyncrasies.
To name a few:
♥ He hates the salad spinner, and barks at it when it is spinning. If he isn’t in the house, he comes running when he hears it.
♥ He hates the shower curtain just as much, and there are fang holes to prove that – good thing I made it out of rip-stop…
♥ He has never been down the inside stairs to the basement, because of the dog-eating monster that lurks down there. Although if he comes into the basement from the outside he will go up those stairs. If Trace goes down those stairs he is disciplined quickly by Mel.
♥ He hides if he hears Hangdog getting the smoke pole – or if he thinks someone is getting the smoke pole.
♥ For some reason, he has to help me go to the bathroom, every single time. I am the only one he “helps” in that regard.
♥ He disciplines us if we hide from him more than 3 times in one day. He missed his calling, he would be a great search and rescue dog.
♥ He will run right past the fresh spring water at the barn, and come in to drink in the toilet, then he will throw up in the kitchen before he goes back out.
♥ He climbs all over Trace but if Trace so much as touches a hair on Mel, there may be heck to pay.
♥ He is fastidious and nary a dread can be found on him. That being said, he never rolls in dead things but he will roll on snakes and then in fresh cow manure…but only when he has to ride in the pickup to get home
He’s a funny guy, our Shan – and we love him!

Great pictures. Your descriptions of Mel’s personality quirks make me miss my dog. They sure get under your skin….
What a great dog! Thanks for sharing!
What a beautiful, sweet boy!
What a great dog! He has such a personality.
Happy Birthday Boy! Love him eyeing the cauliflower!!!
What a great photo tribute to Mel:) Love the cauliflower one!
Life would be a little less interesting without our dogs.
Happy Birthday to Mel, and many more! What a character!
Happy BD Mel!
those are some seriously awesome photos. especially the one with the hissy cat and the dish of cauliflower and broccoli.
LOL Mel reminds me just a little of Notshy….she has to hold my hand in the bathroom too.
how boring our lives would be without our companions. What a great dog Mel!
Happy B-day Mel and many, many more. We love our two boys and just couldn’t think of not having them with us at all times. They truly become a part of your family. As always the photos are wonderful, love the cat and dog in the stare down, reminds me of our Border Collie,”Tuffy”, and our daughter’s cat. They both just tolerate each other *wink*
Blessings,
Kelle
Happy Birthday to Mel, and many more…all those quirky things, they’re just part of a great character!
Talk about “a coat of many colors” : blue, gray, brown, black, white…very handsome dogs. Happy birthday Mel.
Lovely post. Now, is he a fan of cauliflower, of anything “human food” on a table, or was that awesome photo a chance moment?
Great photos! His personality really shows through! He sounds like he’d make quite a pair with my Sheltie, Zephyr. She has RULES about things we can’t use without her barking: vacuum cleaner, food processor, exhaust fan, broom, metal measuring tape, etc. Maybe it’s a herd-dog thing or maybe they think it up for our amusement!
this was indeed the perfect post.
Good Morning!
What a character your Blue Moon Mel is…Happy BD Mel! He reminds me of our Shep the Akbash…personalities all their own. Love all your pictures including the first one LOL! I hope you and your family have a wonderful Sunday.

What a beautiful boy!
While I agree with the cats that the first picture is special, the rest aren’t so bad either. Love the one looking up at the veggies. What an impish look.
Fuzzy ALSO goes to the bathroom with me also. I don’t know why….is he afraid I’ll be flushed away????
Great post!

We owe you, Melvin, and Trace a big debt of gratitude in hooking us on Aussies and helping us through the many questions prior to and during (and after!) adopting Kaleb. He sends happy butt-wags to Melvin…happy 10th!!
A belated Happy Birthday to Melvin from our Aussie Riley! Love the picture with all the cauliflower – that one’s a winner.
