I LOVE digging potatoes!!!! It’s like looking for buried treasure. I’m going a’diggin too, as soon and the fog burns off and it warms up juuuuust a bit 🙂 .
Potatoes in the potato bin = love and security!

I love the smell of fresh dirt after the potatoes are dug, I love the potatoes even more. That sure is a little cat.

Thought that was my cat. We have a number of Manx kittens right now.

We ran out to dig potatoes before work this morning, after seeing yesterday’s special weather statement about rain on the way. Tons of fun. Ours were German Butterballs. Also picked all the half-ripe tomatoes, harvested a bunch of herbs to dry and then planted some overwintering coles, and seeds of lettuce, carrots, spinach and onions. We’ll see how well they do. Got in to work late, but that was one satisfying morning.

Oh, and we had help from the pets, too. One half-Siamese cat, and one little Parson’s Russell Terrier, running around around the back yard, and in the case of the cat, helpfully standing on my bent-over back, commenting on my tendency to dig instead of playing chase.

Matron, sorry to be off topic, but that is an absolutely beautiful new picture in your header (your daughter’s?). But what is it? I think maybe a mushroom or tree fungus?

I just came in the house from digging potatoes, picking apples and doing animal chores. The first thing I did was get a drink of water and go to your blog. I can’t get enough of farming!

Manx cats act like such dogs don’t they! We have 3 cats. One is a manx and will follow us around the paddocks and yards all day!
